1. Understands Content The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and the structures of his or her discipline.  The teacher demonstrates the content, pedagogical, and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to help all students learn meaningful subject matter.

By completing these courses I have shown an understanding of various content areas.  The list of courses demonstrates my training in the required content areas as well as in the content areas designed specifically for my field of study.  The lesson plans demonstrate the ability to teach using different techniques and covering different topics. 

2. Understands Development The teacher understands how children learn and develop and can provide opportunities leading to active learning that support their intellectual, social, and personal development.

The artifacts listed here show that I have an understanding of how children develop and what can be done to provide them with ample opportunities to learn.  The communities unit is an example of different ways of instructing students in one content area.  The observation of students demonstrates my recognition of students in different settings and how those settings can affect them.  The lesson plan demonstrates my ability to give opportunities that can help with students development in different areas of the curriculum.

3. Understands Difference The teacher understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners.

The artifacts listed here show that I have an understanding on how students learn differently.  The units show that I have an understanding of how students from all different ages learn.  The thematic booklist demonstrates my understanding of how readers of different levels learn. 

4. Designs Instructional Strategies The teacher understands and uses  a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students' development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills while incorporating state and national standards.

The artifacts listed here demonstrate my understanding on the different strategies that can be used to instruct students in their understanding of the curriculum.  The PowerPoint demonstrates my ability to develop effective learning strategies for students in different areas of the curriculum.  The lesson plan and reading standards demonstrates my ability to develop a lesson plan to help students develop an understanding of a certain topic while incorporating the standards.

5. Manages and Motivates The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to establish a safe, orderly, and equitable learning environment that fosters positive social interaction, active engagement in learning and self-motivation.

These artifact demonstrate that I will provide a healthy and happy learning environment for my students.  The diversity experience reflects that I have viewed a learning environment from a different culture and have gained some knowledge on different learning environments.

6. Communicates The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques with students and their constituents within and beyond the classroom.  The teacher  fosters active inquiry and engagement in lifelong learning to prepare students for workforce readiness..

These artifacts demonstrate my use of communications both  in and out of the classroom.  Communication is a very important part of an effective classroom and without good communication skills the students and the teacher can never fully reach their potential and achieve all of their goals.  The dialogue journal reflects one of my communication skills with a student one on one.

These artifacts show that I have experience creating and presenting different lessons and assessments.  These show that I have and will continue to assess my work and the students work throughout the learning process.  The literature inventory demonstrates my ability to create an evaluation to learn what the students would like to learn and why and the rubric for the Gingerbread Baby demonstrates how I would evaluate students throughout an entire unit.  The administration of the DRA reading test demonstrates that I have given a standardized test in the classroom setting and I am comfortable doing so.

9. Reflects on Practice The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his/her instructional choices and action on others (students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community) and who actively seeks  out opportunities to grow professionally.

These artifacts demonstrate that I am constantly seeking professional growth through many different processes.  By attending workshops and conferences I am gaining new ideas and insight into the science of teaching and making myself and better and more prepared educator.  The teacher interview demonstrates that I am willing to seek the advice and gain understanding from my peers and the people that I look up to the most.

The teacher uses current technologies, software, and telecommunications networks to plan, design, deliver, and evaluate learning experiences to enhance learning. The teacher employs the ethical use of technology and uses it to further his/her professional productivity.

These artifacts demonstrate my knowledge of integrating technology technology into the learning process.  It shows my knowledge and familiarity with current software and technology.  The artifacts exemplify how I will use technology to further my education and the education of my students.
